How to take a driver's ed course in Montana
The state of Montana requires teens to complete and pass a driver's education course. The Montana driving education courses generally teaches right from the driver's manual so make sure to pick up a copy from your local DMV office.
You must take driver's education in Montana if you are a:
- Montana residents under the age of 16 can apply for a learner's permit if they are enrolled or complete a State-approved driver's education.
- Montana residents 18 and older who have never held a license from Montana, or any other US state or foreign country, must hold a learner's permit for a minimum of 30 days, or complete a State-approved driver's education program before applying for a new license.
Where you can take driver's education in Montana:
- Public and private school programs that are approved by the Montana Traffic Education Unit.
- Driving schools, licensed by the Motor Vehicle Division.
