Minnesota ID Cards
Even making a purchase in a store often requires photo ID, especially if you are using a credit card. Since not everyone chooses to get a driver's license, you can also opt to get an ID card. A Minnesota ID card is pretty easy to get, and requires a lot less work than obtaining a driver's license. To learn more about getting a Minnesota ID card and the requirements you'll need to meet, read on:
- Visit your local DPS office
- If under 18, you'll need a parent or guardian's signature
- A primary document and a secondary document (a full list of these documents can be found here: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/forms-documents/Documents/IdentificationRequirements_English.pdf
- The proper fee
- Over 65 - $11
- 65 or under - $17.25
- If you have qualifying disabilities and/or mental illnesses a Minnesota ID card will cost $0.50
Every five years, you will need to renew your ID card. After the age of 65, your Minnesota ID card will never expire. To obtain a renewal ID card, the fees will be the same as with a new Minnesota ID card.
